I woke up early today, after an earthquake yesterday and protests scheduled in our city today I couldn’t sleep. I needed quiet time before everyone woke to be with the Lord. I needed to cry out to Him with my frustrations, my fears, my anxieties….I needed to get into the word and feel His presence, to experience peace that only he can give. My heart can’t handle all the emotions and feelings stirring inside of me right now, so I needed to lay it all at his feet.
Even the most positive, faithful person right now I imagine is having a hard time processing everything. The pandemic, the natural disasters, the division in our country, that hurt and pain, the evil in the world is at an all time high. We need to seek him, to heal our land, to heal our country our world. We need him more than ever to be present in our homes and in our world. I don’t have the answers, but I seek him in all that I do. He is my rock and my foundation.
I am doing a bible study I have done many times before, by Max Lucado – “Experiencing the Heart of JESUS.” As I opened it up and started reading, the message was about where love and justice meet. How can God punish sin and love the sinner? How can he be just and love the sinner? How can he be loving and punish sin? How can he satisfy his standard and forgive my mistakes? Does he love us because of our goodness? Because of our kindness? Because of our great faith? No, he loves us because of his goodness, kindness, and great faith. John say this: “This is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us” (1 John 4:10 NIV). His grace is where love and justice meet to provide salvation. He meets us right were we are, in our messiness, our unperfected person that we are. It is ok, to not have all the answers, he wants us to seek him for guidance to continue grow in our walk with him to seek his purpose and plan for our life. “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34 NIV). God gives us grace because he loves us. We need to get better at seeing things through his eyes and having a heart of Jesus.
God loves you simply because he has chosen to do so. He loves you when you don’t feel lovable, when you feel unworthy. He loves , you when no one else loves you. Others may abandon you, ignore you, betray you, leave you, hurt you, but God will always love you. “I’ll call nobodies and make them somebodies; I’ll call the unloved and make them beloved” (Romans 9:25 MSG). Some of us can pinpoint moments when we knew completely that God loved us. That you were in his presence, you could feel his arms around you and his peace during that moment. His love meets us in the course of our lives, wherever we are as a refreshing reminder of his perfect love.
These are a few things I have reading during this time in my quiet time. My prayer for you is that you will grow closer in your walk with the Lord during this time and lean in and experience his perfect peace, love, and grace during this season.
